After earning degrees in English and Business from the University of Kent, Chris Broad embarked on a transformative journey when he joined the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, relocating to Sakata in 2012 as an Assistant Language Teacher. Under the pseudonym 'Abroad in Japan,' he began creating videos chronicling his unique experiences in the country, rapidly gaining online popularity. In 2015, he left the JET Programme to fully dedicate himself to producing YouTube content, and in 2023, he released a book bearing the same title as his vlog, skillfully documenting his life in Japan and its rich culture with a blend of wit and charm.

What makes our products so special

What’s in the box?

Our products are made with love and care in Japan, but it’s with you where their story lives on. And for that to happen, we need to make sure they arrive with you in one piece! We carefully wrap each item in bubble wrap and traditional Japanese newspapers (you’ll often find a Japanese crossword or sudoku to solve!). You’ll also receive a short guide on how to care for and cherish your new tableware. Sustainability is important to us and we’re working hard on ways to keep items safe while being kind to the planet, too.
