The Cobalt Blue range consists of organic shapes inspired by the mountainous alpine region of Gifu prefecture. The glaze is fired at low temperatures to create a unique 'crackle' effect over a deep blue background.
The Takai kiln is hard to find, located in an old pottery town behind a maze of small side streets. Taking inspiration from nature and 'wabi sabi' culture, they are renowned for their glass glazes and vivid colours.
Slight irregularities in size, glaze and texture reflect the artisan nature of the product and are embraced.
This spectacular glazes requires slightly more care than our regular products. Check out these tips:
- Don’t use in a microwave. Heat generated in a microwave can open the cracks of the glaze – making your product vulnerable to food/oil stains and nasty bacteria
- Don’t use in a dishwasher unless you’re a careful stacker and use a gentle cycle… Crackle glazes are a bit more fragile than other glazes and prefer hand washing with a mild detergent at a warm temperature – don’t we all?
- Don’t soak – too much water for too long (i.e. 3 days in the sink while everyone ignores the growing pile of unwashed dishes) can cause mould to appear due to excessive water absorption
