Each pen is crafted from natural bamboo, with subtle variations in pattern, thickness, and texture - making every piece unique and a pleasure to own.

The brush tip is handmade using traditional Nara brush-making techniques, carefully shaped one by one with resilient synthetic bristles that offer excellent control and responsiveness.

Filled with water-based pigment ink, the writing is resistant to water once dry and less prone to fading, making it suitable for long-term use and preservation.

A cartridge refill system ensures practicality and longevity.

Produced by Akashiya Fude, a specialist brush maker based in Nara - the birthplace of Japanese brush craftsmanship - with over 300 years of history, continuing to carry forward its culture and tradition.

What makes our products so special

What’s in the box?

Our products are made with love and care in Japan, but it’s with you where their story lives on. And for that to happen, we need to make sure they arrive with you in one piece! We carefully wrap each item in bubble wrap and traditional Japanese newspapers (you’ll often find a Japanese crossword or sudoku to solve!). You’ll also receive a short guide on how to care for and cherish your new tableware. Sustainability is important to us and we’re working hard on ways to keep items safe while being kind to the planet, too.
