Hajime Japanese Chestnut Chopsticks

Crafted from carefully selected Japanese chestnut wood, these premium artisan chopsticks feature a delicate, minimally treated, lacquer-free finish that preserves the natural texture, warmth and character of the wood.

Each pair is carefully shaped and polished by skilled craftspeople using traditional techniques, then finished simply with natural beeswax rather than a protective lacquer coating. The result is a lightweight, beautifully balanced pair of chopsticks with an authentic natural wood feel.

Due to their delicate, lacquer-free finish, these chopsticks require gentle care. The natural wood may become rough or develop fine fraying over time, but can be refreshed by gently sanding and reapplying food-safe beeswax.

Care Instructions

These chopsticks are lacquer-free and finished with natural beeswax, allowing you to enjoy the natural texture and character of the Japanese chestnut wood. As there is no protective lacquer coating sealing the wood, they are more delicate and require additional care to protect them from moisture, heat and surface damage.

  • Wash with warm water or cold water as soon as possible after use, then wipe dry with a soft cloth.
  • Do not soak or leave submerged in water. Prolonged exposure to moisture may cause the natural wood to swell, warp, split or become rough.
  • Wipe dry immediately with a soft cloth and allow to air dry completely before storing.
  • Store away from direct sunlight, as it may cause warping or discolouration.
  • Do not use abrasive scrubbers or polishing powders, as they may damage the finish.
  • Do not use near open flames or with boiling water.
  • Do not use in a microwave or oven.

Please Note: As these chopsticks are made from natural wood without a lacquer coating, the surface may gradually become rougher or develop fine fraying with regular use. This is a natural characteristic of the lacquer-free finish. If required, the surface can be gently sanded with fine sandpaper and re-waxed with a suitable food-safe beeswax to help restore its smooth finish.

Safety Notes

  • If the coating becomes cracked, or if the mouth-contact area becomes damaged, replace the chopsticks as soon as possible.
  • The tips of the chopsticks are finely tapered. Please take extra care when used by children.
  • In rare cases, some individuals may have a reaction to the coating (lacquer/paint).
  • This product is intended for use as chopsticks only. Do not use for other purposes.
