Known as one of Japan’s most iconic traditional crafts, Nambu Tetsubin has been cherished for over 400 years. Protected and nurtured by successive Nambu feudal lords, its distinctive wabi-sabi design embodies quiet simplicity, warmth, and enduring craftsmanship that continues to be valued today.

Water boiled in a Nambu iron kettle develops a smooth, mellow taste, beloved by tea masters for centuries. Today, it’s also enjoyed for brewing sayu (warm water), offering a simple and mindful way to begin the day. The iron content naturally releases trace amounts of bivalent iron, allowing gentle, natural absorption by the body.

This kettle features the auspicious dragonfly (tonbo) motif, a symbol of courage and success. Known as the kachimushi or "victory insect" the dragonfly only flies forward, never backward - representing determination, strength, and good fortune.

The handle’s distinctive twisted iron design (hineri-tsuru) adds both strength and traditional charm.

Each piece is meticulously crafted from Nambu cast iron in Mizusawa, Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture - a region renowned for its ironware heritage.
