Designed by Ross McBride, founder of the watch brand Normal Timepieces, the Extra Normal Clock brings the iconic concept of the original timepiece into a refined wall or desk clock.

At first glance, the dial appears strikingly simple - just three hands set against a clean surface. Its distinctive character reveals itself through the square window in the hour hand, where the current hour quietly appears as time passes.

This subtle effect is created through a two-layer dial construction, allowing the hour numerals printed beneath the surface to emerge through the moving window. The result is a thoughtful balance of clarity and surprise - minimal in appearance yet quietly playful in concept.

Carefully crafted in Japan, the clock reflects the philosophy behind Normal Timepieces: discovering beauty in simplicity while gently rethinking how we experience time. Its compact form allows it to sit naturally on a desk or wall, bringing a calm and contemporary presence to everyday living.

What’s in the box?

Our products are made with love and care in Japan, but it’s with you where their story lives on. And for that to happen, we need to make sure they arrive with you in one piece! We carefully wrap each item in bubble wrap and traditional Japanese newspapers (you’ll often find a Japanese crossword or sudoku to solve!). You’ll also receive a short guide on how to care for and cherish your new tableware. Sustainability is important to us and we’re working hard on ways to keep items safe while being kind to the planet, too.
