The roots of Tobisho trace back to the long tradition of Yamagata blacksmithing, which began centuries ago when skilled craftsmen were brought to the region under the protection of local lords. Over time, Yamagata became renowned for producing exceptional blades and master craftsmen.
Founded in 1930 by Shojiro Tobisho, Tobisho Seisakusho specialised in pruning shears and gardening scissors. Today, the company represents four generations of scissor-making expertise and continues to produce its tools in Yamagata, Japan.
Combining traditional forging techniques with generations of accumulated knowledge and modern testing methods, Tobisho tools are celebrated for their exceptional sharpness, durability, and cutting performance. Trusted by professional gardeners and enthusiasts alike, they are highly regarded both in Japan and around the world.
Our tableware has been made with love, and sometimes needs a little extra care. While the majority of our products are microwave and dishwasher safe, sudden changes in temperature are likely to cause thermal shock, which will damage your item, and we don’t want that.
Check out our care guide here, so you can keep your tableware looking perfect for as long as possible.
As mentioned, most of our range is dishwasher and microwave safe, except a few ‘Crackle’ glazes, if you’re unsure then drop us an email info@mij.co.uk and we’ll be able to advise.
