Design: Yota Kakuda 角田 陽太
Yota Kakuda was born in Sendai, Japan, in 1979. After moving to the UK in 2003, he gained experience working with designers Shin & Tomoko Azumi and Ross Lovegrove. He later studied Design Products at the Royal College of Art (RCA) under Ron Arad and Sir Kenneth Grange, graduating in 2007 as a recipient of the Japanese Government’s Overseas Study Program for Artists.
After returning to Japan in 2008, he worked as a product designer for MUJI before establishing YOTA KAKUDA DESIGN in 2011. His work has been presented internationally and recognised with awards including the ELLE DECOR Young Japanese Design Talent, Good Design Award, and iF Design Award. In 2016, he became the first Japanese finalist for the HUBLOT Design Prize.
