First designed in 1981, the RIKI Ring Clock is one of the final works in the long exploration of clock design by Riki Watanabe (1911-2013), a pioneer of modern Japanese design.

The clock combines distinctive glasses-style hands with elegant ring-shaped hour markers, balancing decorative character with the clarity and functional beauty that define Watanabe’s work. Through this design, he reinterprets traditional ideas of antique clocks while expressing a lighter and more contemporary sense of time.

After decades of exploring modern clock design, Watanabe arrived at a form defined by balance, openness, and subtle elegance. The ring-shaped markers create a sense of space and lightness, giving the clock a refined presence within modern interiors.

Riki Watanabe founded Japan’s first independent design studio in 1949 and played a key role in shaping modern Japanese design. Clock design became one of his lifelong pursuits, ranging from household wall clocks to public timepieces.
