Makiko Sano, raised in Tokyo, Japan, was steeped in the art of cooking from her early years, drawing inspiration from her mother, grandmother, and aunts who created meals from scratch in their bustling Japanese kitchen. For the past two decades, she has called London home, where she lives with her four children. Makiko's restaurant, Suzu, specializes in Japanese tapas, encompassing traditional sushi, sashimi, tempura, and her innovative dishes. Responding to a growing demand, she began offering sushi classes, imparting her knowledge to thousands of eager learners. Her focus on health and flavor has led her to introduce more vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options, crafted especially for her son Leon, who is autistic.

What makes our products so special

What’s in the box?

Our products are made with love and care in Japan, but it’s with you where their story lives on. And for that to happen, we need to make sure they arrive with you in one piece! We carefully wrap each item in bubble wrap and traditional Japanese newspapers (you’ll often find a Japanese crossword or sudoku to solve!). You’ll also receive a short guide on how to care for and cherish your new tableware. Sustainability is important to us and we’re working hard on ways to keep items safe while being kind to the planet, too.
