Create your own handcrafted swallow sculpture with this charming DIY artwork kit from Japan.

This kit contains materials for one Small Swallow sculpture only, as shown in the product images. Large swallow sculptures shown are for display purposes and are not included.

Designed for craft lovers, makers, and anyone who enjoys working with natural materials, this kit allows you to carve, shape, paint, and assemble a decorative swallow inspired by the graceful birds often seen soaring through the Japanese countryside.

Made from soft Japanese cedar, the swallow body is easy to carve and shape using a craft knife or small blade. Once the desired form has been created, smooth the surface with the included sandpaper, paint it using the supplied acrylic gouache, and complete the piece by attaching the wire stand and wooden base. The finished sculpture can be displayed as a unique handmade artwork in the home.

A relaxing and rewarding project for adults and older children under supervision, perfect as a creative gift or weekend craft activity.

How It Works:

  1. Shape the swallow using a craft knife or small carving knife
  2. Smooth and refine the form with the included sandpaper.
  3. Paint the swallow and base using the acrylic gouache.
  4. Lightly sand areas after drying to create a weathered, aged finish if desired
  5. Insert the wire into the base and swallow to complete your artwork.

Our products are made with love and care in Japan, but it’s with you where their story lives on. And for that to happen, we need to make sure they arrive with you in one piece! We carefully wrap each item in bubble wrap and traditional Japanese newspapers (you’ll often find a Japanese crossword or sudoku to solve!). You’ll also receive a short guide on how to care for and cherish your new tableware.
